Kind of sounds like the wild west to me. Sounds like the alcohol made him feel 10' tall and bullet proof. When he sobered up the next morning he must have had one of those "oh man, I'm gonna get shot" moments.

14 hour Sharp County standoff ends peacefully

Thursday, March 1, 2012
Tammy Curtis, Staff Writer
A 14-hour standoff between a barricaded man and Sharp County law enforcement authorities ended on Feb. 17 with felony charges being filed.
According to reports obtained from the Sharp County Sheriff's Department, Eddie Elliot was arrested after his neighbor placed a call to Central Dispatch Feb. 17 indicating Elliot was drunk and threatening to shoot her dog. As Sharp County deputies responded, the neighbor made a second 911 call telling the operator Elliot was shooting at the dog.

When officers arrived on the scene, neighbors Mary Ferrell, David Van and Margurette Parker all stated Elliot had left Ferrell's home after making threats to shoot both them and their dogs. After returning to his home, which was located in close proximity to the neighbor's home, Elliot began shooting at them, and the neighbors believed their lives were in danger.

At the scene, Sharp County Deputy Mike Baldwin contacted Elliot by cell phone, but he only spoke briefly with the suspect, who denied being in the area before hanging up on the officer.

Further attempts to contact him were unsuccessful. Officers then went through the process of obtaining a warrant for Elliot for terroristic threatening.

While a warrant was obtained, Elliot turned off his cell phone and refused to come out of the home. Due to the fact Elliot was a convicted felon, authorities considered Elliot to be a barricaded gunman, and secured the area for the safety of both Elliot and the neighbors.

Officers from various jurisdictions within the county remained at the home throughout the night and into the next morning until his surrender.

Nearly 14 hours after barricading himself in the home, Elliot, who had been drinking heavily throughout the night, spoke with Detective Dale Weaver who was able to arrange his surrender.

Elliot was taken to the Sharp County Detention Center and charged with three counts of terroristic threatening, all Class D felonies.

Elliot's bond was set at $20,000 by District Judge Mark Johnson. He was released after posting bond and is currently awaiting his first appearance hearing.
