THREE RIVERS AREA — Read below to find out what's going on in the Three Rivers area.
SUNDAY
Tour of Homes
CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The home of Charles and Carol Ann Hill, at 28 Immokalee Drive near the south entrance in Cherokee Village, is one of three homes featured on the 2010 Holiday Tour of Homes. Also on the tour are the homes of Jerry and Donna Eldridge, at 36 Winnebago Drive, and Virginia Schmidt, at 9 Wahoo. Maps to the homes are printed on each ticket. The tour will be from 1:30-4 p.m. This year’s tour, called “A Village Christmas,” is an annual event sponsored by the Timely Club, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs International. Tickets are available from any Timely Club member or at Hill’s Pharmacy in Highland; The Dulcimer Shop in Hardy; The Interior in Ash Flat; Grapevine in Ash Flat; and First National Bank of Commerce locations in Cherokee Village, Highland, Hardy, Ash Flat and Walmart. Ticket prices are $6 in advance or $7 at any of the three homes the day of the tour. For more information, call (870) 856-2170.
SATURDAY
SAME Café
SEARCY — The SAME Café will be open from 4-6 p.m. at the West Side Church of Christ at 709 W. Arch St. in Searcy. The SAME Café is open the first and third Saturdays of each month to anyone who would like a free warm meal.
Author Reading
HARDY — Poets Roundtable poet and author Patricia A. Oplinger will read from her work in In the Playhouse of My Mind Volume I, Scattered Rainbows Volume II and Life on a Seesaw Volume III from 2-4 p.m. at WORDS Bookstore on Spring Street in Hardy. Former Cherokee Village artist Carol L. Funke, now of South Carolina, collaborated on this Circle of Life Trilogy of coffee-table books. A few of Funke’s visual images seen in the books will also be on display.
Winter Commencement
SEARCY — Approximately 350 graduates will receive diplomas at Harding University commencement exercises at 10 a.m. in Benson Auditorium. Graduates include students from the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Bible and Religion, the Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, the College of Communication, the Cannon-Clary College of Education, the Carr College of Nursing, the College of Sciences, and the Honors College, as well as the Physician Assistant Program. The keynote speaker will be Roy Reaves, chairman and chief executive officer of the Central Division of Liberty Bank of Arkansas.

Santa Shack
CABOT — The 14th annual Santa Shack will be open on weekends until Christmas and on weeknights the week before Christmas at the Cabot Walmart. There will be a free candy cane for each child, and photos with Santa will be available. The shack’s hours will be 6-8 p.m. Fridays; 9-11 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Saturdays; 1-3 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Sundays; and 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, through Thursday, Dec. 23.

Decorating Contest
JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Advertising and Promotion Commission, the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and Jacksonville Parks and Recreation will sponsor the Jacksonville Fantasy in Lights Decorating Contest. Homes, streets, churches and businesses must be signed up by Sunday, Dec. 19. Judging will take place after 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20. Call (501) 982-0818 to nominate a home, street or business.
