Huffmaster wins big at Denver cattle show

Highland High School senior Casey Huffmaster recently returned from the Western National Stock Show, in Denver. While serving the Sharp County and the state of Arkansas, Huffmaster once again accumulated international showmanship awards, and even brought home a National Saler's Scholarship to help fund her education. Competitors at the Jan. 13-16 Denver show were from 48 states and eight foreign countries.
After winning the National Saler's Queen title and countless state and local awards for her showmanship, she was able to make the three day trip with her parents and FFA advisors Randy Nicholson and Jared Johnson.

Huffmaster is the daughter of David and Trisha Huffmaster of Hardy, a lifelong resident of Sharp County and very active in 4-H, FFA, and Arkansas Junior Cattlemen Association.

Her trips on the national show circuit have earned her more awards than most any high school senor can ever claim.

Serving as the 2011-2012 American National Saler's Queen, Huffmaster's life revolves around her close knit family, friends and her show cattle.

While in Denver, Huffmaster served the country as National Saler's Queen, and showed her heifer, Sissy, winning second place over some of the toughest competition in the world.

She also showed her calf, Rebel, who was born at the Highland High School show barn in 2011.

Rebel placed third in the Denver show.

Huffmaster, who is closing out the last months of her senior year and looking forward to college, has had a lifelong love of animals, and began participating in 4-H in 2005.

She has won awards in both district and state 4-H O'Ramas, and currently serves as the president of the Sharp County 4-H.

Huffmaster's high grade point average also reflects her pride in her school work.

Huffmaster is also a full time farmer who owns her own cattle operation, overseeing the day to day needs of her registered Angus and Salers show cattle.

The senior has lived an exciting senior year, traveling the United States showing her prized cattle, and keeping up with school activities. But, on the day of her return from Denver, she endured a horrible loss.

The barn in which one of her show cattle was housed was destroyed, killing her beloved Wish, the mother of Rebel.

Huffmaster was deeply saddened by the event, but through her resilience and the support of the community, she has continued to move forward and determined to enjoy the remainder of her high school days at Highland.

Currently, Huffmaster and other members of the Highland FFA are working on the Spring FFA equipment auction set for March 10 at Highland High School.

The fundraiser is one of the club's largest of the year and draws a huge crowd.

Following graduation, Huffmaster plans to attend college at Beebe where she plans to major in animal science.
