For sure. And an ironically selfish and self-defeating strategy. The reason the market slightly rebounded this morning was that the job/employment figures were very slightly up. Most folks had thought they would be negative. But here's the really weird part about the economic picture. Corporations and investors sitting on tons of cash are waiting for the consumer confidence/employment number to be good. BUT for those numbers to be good, people need jobs!!! And they are the ones who can make them!!!
Of course, the other thing not mentioned is that while everyone want deficit reduction in principle, we just took about a trillion of government spending out of the economy. The markets are also reacting to that. In fact, when the economy is bad is precisely when government spending is most important. We learned that during the Depression. Only the "stimulus" of WWII pulled us out.
