Hi trout ,

Sounds perfect. Sure wish I could've been there for 1 of those roasts. Still, I see no reason why we could do another again. Maybe the Elks with organize it. You give them the secret formula from the glory days. Truly, this is the stuff we need to recapture. Thanks for sharing.

Years ago the Portia Picnic on the 4 th of July roasted pigs in the big pits. People from all around would come to town. The politicians were thick as flies but the food was great..I remember the long pits they dug and started the fires days before the 4th. Then the hogs were placed in the pits and long pieces of tin were placed on top to keep inthe heat and smoke. Those were the days. The you would eat and finish things off with a slice of CAVE CITY WATERMELON. YUM YUM. Miss those days.
