Re: What Do You Want To Know?
Hi crimson,
There is no doubt that employment is the #1 issue. The issue behind that issue is health care among others. The issue of employment is not new. Cooper faced it when he tried to fill out the vision beyond retirees. If anything, it is better now than in the past. Do you have thoughts on what might help?

Re: What Do You Want To Know?
Insurance is higher here. Granted, the property taxes are lower, but when you can't find a job down here, let alone one that pays anything, the "low cost of living" turns out to be a facade!

Insurance costs
I've actually found both homeowners and car insurance to be surprisingly and significantly higher here than the DC suburbs where I lived/owned prior to coming here. Housing itself is much cheaper, though.

Re: What Do You Want To Know?
Tater, overall the cost of living is much lower than the national average. That relates to lower housing costs and taxes mostly. Utilities such as phone and cable are about like anywhere else, and some things are higher and some things are lower. Homeowners insurance is lower in Ark than in more populated states, at least from my experience. Property taxes are much lower as well, again, at least from my experience. If you come from a high tax state in relation to property taxes and homeowners insurance, you will see lower costs. For example, even if food is a bit higher than where you come from (and I don't know that to be the case, just using it as an example), you still wouldn't be able to buy enough food to offset the savings from your lower insurance and property taxes unless you are buying food for a huge household maybe. You will still be ahead of the game. I would look at the big expenses and add them up in both places. See the real dollar difference and then start looking at the littler items. Every household is different and you must calculate it all first. The little stuff for the most part are all going to be close or close enough to not make that much of a difference from what I have seen.

Re: What Do You Want To Know?
Hi Forum- My questions evolve around the basic essentials for home ownership. Such as, average cost of well, septic in area or in the case of Highland and Hardy the cost for hooking up to city water and sewer, Cable, internet, and phone.Car insurance-house insurance, taxes etc. In otherwords, what makes the quad area attractive for a retiree who may already own property in area, but who might be considering elsewhere. Noted the beautiful scenery is a given, but day to day living is an essential.
Thanks for all imput.
