There is only one class of people who hasn't been hurt in the recent economic downturn -- the very wealthy, many of whom directly or indirectly profited from the taxpayer bailouts. Ironically, it is precisely this group the Republicans are most concerned to protect from being a part of the tax revenue absolutely needed to reverse the deficit. Why can't folks see what this stalemate is really about and whose interests are being represented.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to resolve the deficit without raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans. Period. Without revenue, it's plain BS.

This stalemate is getting scary. Both side have to do what each doesn't want to do for the sake of the Nation. To heck with their re-elections. It makes me sick.

What was their bail out, again? 10 billion dollars, I believe. Proof positive the "private sector" is no better than "the government." In fact, it's getting harder and harder to distinguish between them at all.

I'm hoping that Goldman Sachs buys the government and then sells it to Mexico or some other country and turns a profit.

Stalemate Empty Stalemate

Hi Forum,

Do you believe that special interests or principles are driving the stalemate in Washington? In other words, are our politicians engaged in a real discussion?
