Re: Kayak or Canoe?
Hi Mike and Conventional1,
I recently read that ALCO does better price-wise than WalMart. That certainly was a good deal on the kayak.

Wow you got a good deal. I guess they are gone by now.

Re: Kayak or Canoe?
Hi Forum,
One last question from a novice on the kayak issue. Some kayaks have a hallow inside you slip into and some you kind of sit on top of. What are the benefits and drawbacks of each of these two types? Thanks.

Re: Kayak or Canoe?
Paul,
Now you see it. I'm glad. That is exactly what I was telling you about. My wife and daughter are crazy over it. It is called a paddle board. It is getting very popular and is great exercise. From the way my wife is sounding, it won't be too long before you see me out on Sequoyah on one of those. Problem is, they aren't cheap. I gave you some info on it on my previous posts below. Have fun! Go for it!

Re: Kayak or Canoe?
Hi Forum,
So right now I'm at the shore. What they have going on here as the latest craze is young people paddling their surf boards while standing up. It's kind of like a pontoon. It sure would be a hoot to see that on Thunderbird.

Thank you for your advice. Portability really does make a big difference. They have some kayaks on sale now at the local Walmart. They look pretty decent. I think that I'll take the plunge.
Great .... see ya on Lake Sequoyah!

Re: Kayak or Canoe?
I'll throw my 2 cents in here ... I've had a powerboat, a rowboat, a sailboat, a canoe and a kayak. I love my kayak because not only is it fun but it's easy to haul around by yourself. I'm a 124 pound female and I have no trouble getting out on the lake if I go by myself .... I can get it in the van .... out of the van ... and into the water ... easily .... and you don't need a boat ramp. It's a go anywhere kind of watercraft.

Here's something interesting I just saw. Offer the guy $100 and see what happens.

Re: Kayak or Canoe?
I would start with Craigslist. http://jonesboro.craigslist.org/ The Jonesboro CL has many people from Sharp County and surrounding areas posting items for sale.
Also go to see Bob at the marina. He usually has his ears open on who's trying to sell a boat. We found a good paddleboat that way. Dirt cheap and in great condition.

Hi Mike & forum,
Where would you go locally to buy a kayak or canoe, or would you go locally?

Re: Kayak or Canoe?
For one or two people? I'd get a small jonboat with a small outboard 9.9 and have some fun. For non motor, if you know how to kayak, it does look like fun. The rave these days is paddleboarding and my wife is getting into that. There is nobody on any of the lakes in CV using a paddleboard, not one, but it is excellent exercise and real fun. Once people see one, they may want to get into it. Paddleboards aren't cheap however. Here's a link for approximate costs. I'm not promoting the site, just showing you what they are.

Kayak or Canoe?
Hi Forum,
For the non-motor crowd that just wants to plop a boat in the water and stay close to the shore, would you recommend a kayak or canoe? Why?
