PRESIDENT'S SPEECH

I would call the speech uninspired. The President looked tired and used too many canned phrases. The substance is in need of military analysis beyond what we know from our armchairs. However, the cash drain of these two wars is beyond belief -- and we've been borrowing to do it since President Bush to avoid taxing and paying as we go. We have spent a trillion already and presently two billion a week. It can't go on.

On the other hand, we owe it to our fallen to honor the sacrifice they have made and bring about a sensible, fact-driven conclusion -- not a politically calculated one to appeal to one's base whether on the left or right.
