Re: FISHING DERBY
Trout,
You're right. Why wait? The sooner the better. You make a good point also that the start-up costs of this kind of event are minimal and perfect for local businesses to underwrite. There's a deeper point here as well. We can talk "community" all we want, but community has to be a lived thing. It is found in events that bring people together. They don't have to be "big" things. They just need to be family oriented and social. If there is a sense that I got from reading the Early History of Cherokee Village, it was how deliberate those events were to build up relationships and a shared life. 2030 is about providing the best context for that to occur, and you are 100% right that it doesn't take a fortune to build community spirit.
PS How about this for a little Fishing Derby inspiration:

Re: FISHING DERBY
Why wait so long, how about Memorial day of sooner. Maybe one of the real estate companies might like to sponor one or have the CVBA sponor. Little things like this will help promote the area and bring families, friends and guest together. And the cost would be little I would think. How about a turkey shoot another way to bring people together. BBQ cooking contest. There are many things that could help promote the area and the village with just a little push here and there.

FISHING DERBY
Hi Forum,
Elsewhere, trout mentioned the idea of a fishing derby as a family-oriented activity. There was, I believe, a charity related fishing derby last year or the year before. If memory serves me from local history, fishing derbies were fairly common in the Village at one time. It would be good to bring them back for the coming summer. Perhaps it could start the day before the 4th of July fireworks.
Stocking the lakes is another matter.
