There is this growing problem in general of the increase in "fees." I like straightforward transactions and no fine print. Every time you turn around, there's another fee for this or that. One reason in the political realm is that it is a replacement word for tax! In the private sector, it is just a way of concealing true costs to the consumer. Now with respect to water, I'm not adverse to the idea of penalties for seriously overdue accounts. However, it should be remembered that the Water Company gets a lot of revenue from part-year residents who never turn their water off. Perhaps they could get a break on the customer fee. Even so, I do like our local Water Company and am still amazed at how the system has been extended through the Village. It really is a marvel.

trout, As far as I know the electric company does not use this policy, and they seem to be doing just fine. If they have changed their policy, it would not surprise me though. I am not talking about people that are trying to get out of their personal responsibilities. Those are not the people that I have been talking to. Its just my opinion that it could hurt some folks that might make a legit mistake. You just have a different opinion than me.

Well Chuck, if you think that the additional fee is asking to much for someone who misplaced or forgot about their water bill, how do you feel about the extra taxes and franchise fees that you pay now. That would bother me more than a fee for turning my water back on.

Also I believe just about any company now charges late fees which would be the same as please turn my water back on fee. How do you feel about misplacing your electric bill and it gets turned off, etc. Come on people must he held responsible and take care of their own business it is not the water department or other companies responsibility to take care on us.
