Mike, Medford Oregon was one place. I know it is much bigger than the village but the idea is the same you should have seen the families there, Also Crested Butte CO. they had an open area next to their library where they had open concerts, bring a chair, blanket and have fun. Both were free and there were just a few vendors there selling food. Another place was Vancouver WA. A very family oriented place. Alot of these events could be sponored by local businesses. They don't have to be big and noisy just a nice place where people and families can get to gather and share the village.

Hi trout,

I'm glad that you like the idea. It is another move in the direction we both think really matters -- promoting a family recreational experience and environment. Many of these little things can be done inexpensively, and they don't just have to be in the summer. The summer can ground these activities and then give folks a doable community get-together when a lot of other SID things shut down.

One thing the Early History of Cherokee Village got across to me was how much energy John Cooper put into trying to create community inside the Village.

Great idea! What town was that, trout? Maybe CV can learn how they did this successfully. This is the kind of idea that would work.

Good idea also during the summer how about outside movies . Set up near one of the lakes. I have seen this done at other small cities. It really draws families. They bring blankets, chairs the kids are there. Old movies that are different for the kids to watch. Local businesses had popcorn, drinks etc. Really drew crowds and seemed like everyone had a good time. We do have a nice size group of families with kids. Help bring old and new together and one more things to promote the village.

Movie Night? Empty Movie Night?

Hi Forum,

I have been thinking a bit about the resource of the large gym at Omaha Center. It would be interesting as a community offering to have a movie club that would host a classic movie in the gym. Heck, you could have popcorn! The large screens are easy to come by as our the DVD projectors. The gym already has a stage and there are plenty of chairs. Great parking.
